Chinese green tea, derived from the plant Camellia sinensis L., has a fascinating and ancient history.  According to legend, tea was first cultivated in China during the reign of Emperor Shen Nung, around 2737 BC..

The tea plant then arrived in Japan in the 8th century AD, where it was initially considered exclusively as a medicinal herb, before becoming a widely enjoyed and appreciated beverage.

Over the centuries, tea cultivation spread worldwide. One of the first tea camellias brought to Europe was by Linnaeus, who received it from Captain Eckbert in 1763 and cultivated it in the Botanical Garden of Uppsala. At the end of the 19th century, the director of the Botanical Garden of Pavia, Giovanni Briosi, experimented with tea cultivation, but it was only in the 1920s that Gino Pollacci managed to acclimate the plant to the cold of northern Italy without any winter covering, thus creating a new variety: Camellia sinensis ticinensis.

Today, Chinese green tea is appreciated worldwide for its unique taste and beneficial properties. It is a symbol of culture, history, and tradition, continuing to delight palates and promote health.
